Dieter Marschall addresses the topic to some degree in his "Walther Pistols Models 1 Through P99," from Ucross Books in Los Alamos. Keep in mind what was going on in Europe after the war.I have on lay away a P 38 that has a serial number of 0011XX E. I believe it is an early commercial model imported by Interarms.
