8/19/21 - This is an excellent Russian SKS that was made in 1954 at the Izhevsk factory. Matching numbers on stock, magazine, trigger guard, bolt handle and receiver. Excellent blued finish aside from a patch of pitting on the left side of the receiver. Minty bore. Folding bayonet and sling included. Stock has some dings but no major defects.I have an SKS w/no markings save for the importation stamp and 5 digit serial number. The only other markings on the rifle are several proof marks (which are indistinguishable) and a few other odd characters that i can not find in research anywhere. I bought a $299.99 Chinese SKS a few years back with the intention of making a restoration project out of it. It's one of the models that was stored somewhere in the Balkans and had a good amount of "trench art" and wear on the stock. After more hours of cosmoline removal than I expected, I took it out to see if/how well it functioned.I've read several differing accounts but from what I understand. 1) Sino-Soviet guns had a Tula marking and a low serial number (No factory stamping) 2) 1956- Early 1957 (Ghost Guns) Were seen as the first true Chinese SKS. Serial Numbers up to the early 200,000's but no factory stamping. 3) 1957 The Arsenal 26 marking begins to appear.However, on a Russian SKS the rifle markings would be on the top cover. It looks like the top cover is blank, or void of markings. In the years that I've been paying attention I've only seen 3 Russian SKS rifles sans import marks. One of those was a bring back from Vietnam. The others were examples that I think the importer somehow missed applying a mark. I own one SKS with no import marks - a 1978 Yugo 59/66. This is a 1957 vintage Romanian SKS. This is a 1960 vintage Romanian SKS. Russia. The Russian SKS's were in actual production from 1949 to 1956 when the rifle of choice was changed to the AK-47.
