After the Transtint has dried, it also has a very flat looking finish. Much like the leather dyes, Transtint also allows you to see the natural beauty of the gourd marking through the finish. Gourds that we use Transtint on include the Elves, Cottages, and Caramelized snowmen. The last color coat we use on the gourds is Latex paint.TransTints are formulated from light stable metallized acid dyes. They are more lightfast when compared to conventional aniline powdered type dye stains. This unique concentrated formulation allows the user great latitude in using the dye because it is compatible with a wide variety of finishing products.

I use Transtint dyes frequently, as stains and as colorants in finishes. A mix of medium brown and red mahogany will give you cherry tints. The transtint cherry is much too red for my taste. Wasn't sure if the water absorbed into the wood would take hours or days to fully dry enough to be safe to put an oil based finish over it. I'll just go with a few hours to be safe.
