Mystery Luger with British proofs - need help. I have a Luger for which I need help to identify it's heritage. First, it has no German markings on it that I can identify (no DWM, Erfurt, 42, no date, no waffenmark eagles, etc.) Serial numbers match #23xx with what appears to be a script "d" under the serial # on the front of the frame.Try to size photos to 1024 pixels along the longest axis, and take them in shaded indirect sunlight without flash, and in sharp focus. Show any markings in closeup. Only three armories would have been producing Lugers in 1939, and only two would have marked this date over the chamber. K-dates, G-dates, 1936-7, all the way up to '39 they used S/42 and then they just used the code 42. 42 was the code for the Mauser factory. But in 1941 they changed the code to byf.The suffix letter r would place production in the 1927/1928 time period. The lack of barrel markings may mean that the barrel has been replaced. By 1921, DWM commercial production had reached 92000 at which point they stopped using 5 digit serial numbers and began using 4 digits and a suffix letter; thus an Alphabet commercial Luger.1918 P08 Marking front Grip Strap.
