Dec 8, 2017. 0. Hello there . Need some help with my '06 CAT C15 Acert MXS as I really feel I'm ready to set this thing on fire. The problem is that when it's getting cold outside (about 35F or below) the cruise control and Jakes stop working . Will start working again if I stop and idle for 10-15 mins but will only last 5-10 miles and it dies ...4 positions. All the way up is off. Pull towards you one click that's the cruise brake. Dec 3, 2006 · My friend has a C15 CAT and says the Jake engages properly, but is late to disengage. I have my jake Brake book, only talks about problems with the Jake Brake not working. When the engine brakes are energised, a piston in the jake lever extends to take up the clearance and then it acts like an ordinary rocker. The purpose of the clearance is to ensure that the lever does not contact the valve or the cam when not in use.Jake brake uses engine compression for braking. So if not in gear it does nothing (except maybe kill the engine) and how effective it is depends upon which gear you are in. So in neutral it does nothing.
