I had a 9600... shifted the DP while running the PTO without any problems, and that thing had just under 9900 hours when I traded it. Definatly watch the coolant and inj. pump oil, as Rod said. Shifting problems are generally either linkage wear/adjustment issues or shifing forks bent/broken.

I unhooked the tach cable from the generator and turned it with my fingers, the tach began to go up. Well I knew that was all good so I took off the bottom plate where the tach gear is at on the generator.Tractor. Ford 3000. My Ford 3000, 1966 model, gas, 3 cylinder was running rough. You will need to pull the lift cover. It's heavy, best to use an overhead winch, or an engine hoist to lift it safely. You need to get a shop/service manual and study what you have to do before starting. I think an I&T shop manual should be sufficient. You must have a later 3000 as the early ones used a 3 bolt manifold there to secure both lines to the pump. Those rubber type hydraulic fittings weren't the best idea. What happens is due to vibration the metal gripping part of that rubber nut eats away at the steel line so it' doesn't grab so well.

When I press in the clutch half way the gears grind (pto running or not). When I press the pedal about 1" or 2" from the floor I can change the gears (with pto running). Then hook it to a spark plug wire to it and ground the plug body to the engine. Turn the engine over and look at your spark. You should see a bright, bluish- white spark that will easily jump the 1/4" gap. Weak, short or yellowish/reddish spark will NOT do.
