Typically though it should be about the 2:00 oclock position.. And on alot of caps number 1 is marked either on outside of cap or inside. On a small Chevy (or big Ford, firing order is the same), cyls 5 and 7 or 7 and 8 in the big Ford fire 90 degrees apart, they are also in the rear of the engine.Let's say in relation to the distributor cap: #1 spark plug is in 12oclock position. #2 spark plug is in the 3oclock position. #3 spark plug is in the 6oclock position. #4 spark plug is in the 9oclock position. As the rotor rotates in a clockwise manner, it should fire a spark everytime it passes a contact on top of the distributor right?My manual shows the firing order for a 7.5L engine is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Ford did swap the firing order on the HO 5.0 to the 351 w/c firing order. The 460 did not get the same treatment. I am not aware of any swap cams for the 460 at this time. 8) Scotty J.
